Some 20km south-east of the city centre, Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (Budapest Liszt Ferenc Nemzetközi Repülőtér) has increased in traffic and size considerably in recent years. Once operating as Budapest Terminal 2, this more modern facility took over the role as the country’s main air hub following the closure of Terminal 1 in 2012. The airport is divided into adjoining terminals A and B, whose security lanes feed into the same departure lounge and SkyCourt. An interactive terminal map helps passengers find their way from the check-in through the duty-free zone to the gates. Public transport to and from the city centre has improved with the introduction of a direct bus service, 100E, which calls at the central points and metro stations of Kálvin tér, Astoria and the main hub of Deák tér. Tickets are currently 900 HUF, purchased from a machine by the bus stop at the airport or from metro stations. There’s also a taxi dispatch kiosk immediately outside Arrivals – the fare into town is approximately 8,000 HUF, depending on your destination. In 2018, Liszt Ferenc saw its first airport hotel opened, ibis Styles, with 145 rooms.
